KAMPALA- It was a foreign invasion at the 17th edition of the NSSF-KAVC International Volleyball tournament. Rwandan outfit Inatek and Kenya Administrative Police (KAP) were the last teams standing in the coveted men’s category.
Champions Inatek knocked out hosts KAVC in the first semifinal 3-1 while the losing finalist Kenya Administration Police edged past Sky 3-2 in the other semifinal.
Inatek, who were playing for the second time at the invitational tournament, overwhelmed KAP 3-1 in a final that lasted one hour and 26 minutes.
It was the three-man blocking partnership of Olivier Ntagwengwa, Marchal Kwizera and Hervin Kagimbura that made KAP look like school boys on court. Inatek took the first set 25-17 in just 16 minutes after leading 8-0 at the end of the first technical timeout.
KAP struggled with Inatek’s high balls enroute to the latter winning the second set 25-20.
Kenyan internationals Sila Makiso and Ibrahim Odwor inspired a comeback which they claimed 26-24.
Desperate for their maiden silver ware beyond the Rwandan border Inatek whitewashed the Kenyans in the fourth with a comprehensive 25-13 victory. The two-day tournament attracted 12 men’s volleyball clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi while they were six for women from Uganda and Rwanda.
