Kasirye, Mbabazi dominate EA Badminton Challenge

KAMPALA- The City Tyres/Bosch-sponsored East African Badminton Challenge was not on the Uganda Badminton Association calendar last year.

But as it made a return over the weekend, Brian Kasirye remained one of the dominant performers with the 2016 champion easily retaining his singles title.

Kasirye, also the Africa Youth Games silver medalist, easily defeated Davis Ssenono in straight sets 21-12 21-9 to reaffirm his dominance on the domestic scene.

Second seed Gladys Mbabazi then stood out in the women category defeating top seed Aisha Nakiyemba 21-7 11-21 21-17 to win the singles category.
She then partnered with Fatumah Nabirugi to beat Brenda Awori/ Husina Kobugabe 21-7 21-10 to win the doubles category.

Uganda meanwhile retained the overall title after defeating Kenya 2-0.
