KAMPALA.
Duncan ‘Kikankane’ Mubiru believes that up to five drivers have a realistic chance of winning the Jinja Rally.

The rally which starts today with a super special stage at the Jinja Agricultural Show Grounds is the second rally on the National Rally Championship (NRC) calendar. And Kikankane, who won the first event in Mbarara at the start of this month says it is the top five finishers from western Uganda that will again be in contention.
“I see a repeat of the Mbarara performances in Jinja,” predicted Kikankane.

At the previous race, 2005 and 2007 NRC title holder Ronald Ssebuguzi finished behind Kikankane whereas Fred Wampamba was third with Wycliffe Bukenya and Jonas ‘Matayo’ Kansiime completing the top five. It is however Bukenya that has attracted most attention in the lead up to this rally.

The veteran driver, who finished second at last year’s event behind Jas Mangat, has switched navigators with experienced George Ssemakula replacing Frank Sserugo in the Mitsubishi Evo 9.

“Sserugo is held up by work commitments at the moment,” replied Bukenya when quizzed about the sudden switch of navigators. Shafiq Ssemujju, who finished sixth in Mbarara, will however miss the event.
