Nkumba Navy’s Curthbeth Malinga and KAVC’s Daudi Okello are two teenagers with a penchant for the big stage.
The high school teenagers will be the main attractions as their teams lock horns in the NSSF Volleyball League at the MTN Arena in Lugogo today. Okello has been the architect of KAVC’s stay at the summit of the 10-team log while Malinga and Nkumba have won lost one and won two.
“It’s won’t be about me and Malinga,” said soft-spoken Okello trying to water down the contest. “Nkumba has so many other good players.”
KAVC have won five of their six outings and a win will take them to 18 points, seven ahead reigning champions Nemostars, who boast of two games in hand.
“With Tony (Lakony) and Nepo (Mohamemd) on their team plus Malinga, Nkumba will be hard to stop,” added KAVC’s power attacker.
Both players are high ball attackers and can command the backcourt. Malinga though has an edge of being a better blocker.
“KAVC have been able to win games because of their good defence,” said Malinga. “If we penetrate their defence then we can win.” Nkumba lost their opener 3-0 to Nemostars but registered wins against KCCA (3-1) and Old Kampala (3-0).
