Since 2009, Namilyango College old boys under their umbrella association NACOBA have held annual sports galas in which cohorts compete in different disciplines.
Sunday will be no different when Uganda`s oldest school alumni converge at Makerere University Business School, Nakawa, sports grounds for the event that will also double as the launch of the school’s 116th anniversary celebrations that will be held at the College on March 23.
The sports gala is held to celebrate the prestigious college as a sports powerhouse that has produced great sportsmen not forgetting sports administrators such as the late Maj. Gen. Francis Nyangweso, Lawrence Mulindwa and Fufa president Eng. Moses Magogo.
“Apart from the sports bit of it, the get together also gives the old boys time to catchup, exchange contacts and forge away ahead in life as brothers,” explained NACOBA treasurer Ivan Musaala.
There will be a fundraising drive during the gala aimed towards improving the school gate and tarmacking the main driveway from the gate into the school with Sh100m targeted.
Football, rugby, basketball, volleyball, tug of war, running, egg on spoon and table tennis will all be played.
It’s a known single boy’s school but each side will field a lady in the competitions.
