Kampala- It can either be termed as destiny or fate that Nemostars will play KAVC in the National Volleyball League finals starting tomorrow.
The two sides have met in three finals this year and their rivalry on and off the court is growing by the day.
Nemostars and KAVC defeated Nkumba Navy and Sport-S respectively to win the semifinal playoff series 2-0 on Wednesday night at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.
Nemostars took comfortable two sets lead 25-12 and 25-15. But a change in tactics from coach Anthony Ndawula, who replaced Steven Wandera with Christopher Ajena, brought some luck Nkumba’s way as they nicked back a set.
Ajena, who had just arrived from Mbarara, struggled find his rhythm and he solely took the blame as Nkumba won 25-23.
Nemostars, however, bounced back to silence Nkumba’s mid game celebrations with a clinical shift in the fourth set (25-19) to seal their berth in the final.
“Yes, we are in the final,” Nemostars’ captain George Aporu said.
A few hours latter KAVC joined Nemo in the final with a hard fought 3-2 win over Sport-S in a game that lasted two hours.
After narrowly losing the first set 28-26, Sport-S rallied to level the game with a 25-14 win.
KAVC showed their hunger with a 25-20 victory in the third but the see-saw affair continued with an inspired Sport-S clinching the fourth 25-22 to force a decisive.
But KAVC held their nerve to wrap up the game 15-10.
“It could have gone either way,” said KAVC’s Saviour Atama.
“We are relieved that our approach and tactics have paid off.”
