Nemostars looking to snatch seventh title

KAMPALA- Nemostars have played in nine finals out of as many tournaments enroute to taking home six titles.
But the Uganda Christian University Open in Mukono that serves off this morning is one that has eluded the Kololo-based side.
Despite their jaw-dropping record this season, Nemostars have neither won nor reached the final of the Mukono event for the last eight editions.
“We are well aware of our poor run at the UCU Open,” said Nemostars’ power attacker Tom Paul Amou. “Things have gone our way this season and we hope that the tremendous run can continue in Mukono.”
Taking part in the UCU Open was an 11th hour change of heart from Nemostars after opting out of the Aphia Plus Nyanza tournament in Kisumu, Kenya also scheduled for this weekend.
“You can say we had our focus on the Kenyan event but since we didn’t travel there then it is obvious that we want to do well in the UCU Mukono Open,” explained vice captain Smith Okumu.
Nemostars, who face hosts UCU Doves, Sport-S Tigers and Sharing in the group stage, opted out of the Kisumu showpiece because of several player-withdrawals.
In the women’s category, holders KCCA will have to play every match like a final after they were pooled with fellow powerhouses KAVC and Ndejje in the same group. “It is a tight group,” confessed KCCA captain Jackline Achieng. “But who said we can fail to find our way out of it?” Nkumba are expected to dictate pace in the other group.
