Northern region bank on Akera

In Summary

Volleyball. The two-day tournament will be played on a round robin best of three format.

Patrick Komakech, Northern region’s coach, is confident his team will come out on top in the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) Presidents Cup.

The re-packaged tournament gets underway at the Mubs Nakawa courts today. Komakech is expected to unleash highly rated Joseph Akera, who is in Uganda on holiday. “I have never seen such a player in the region,” UVF president Sadiq Nasiwu said of the star nicknamed ‘mean machine’.

“He was an all round player. A very good attacker and setter.”
Akera made his name as KAVC and national player between 1994 to 2001 and many fans will be hoping he can come out in full force.

“We expect a bit of resistance from the Eastern team,” said coach Komakech. “But I know that my team has what it takes to come out on top.”
