Ojangole, Javier dismissals cloud KHC Swans, Simba victories

KAMPALA. Even a 3-1 win over Weatherhead, in the women’s National Hockey League (NHL) on Sunday, could not save Faustine Ojangole’s job as Kampala Hockey Club (KHC) Swans coach.
According to sources close to KHC chairman Habib Sewava, the decision to sack the coach whose side had hitherto beaten only Rhinos and drawn once with Deliverance Church of Uganda, ‘was arrived at over a week ago – only implementation delayed’.

Ojangole’s side put up a gutsy performance in his final appearance with defender Vicky Auma and Gorreti Asere deployed as midfield enforcers. Sandra Namusoke will now take over as player-coach.
Patricia Namubiru scored a first half brace while Angela Nakintu added the third in the 47th minute as KHC moved level with third-placed Weatherhead on 10 points but with a -14 goal difference.
Weatherhead have now lost twice – to Rhinos and KHC – and drawn with DCU since star player Siddy Alum moved to Dubai.

Elsewhere, an interesting clash of egos saw Spanish winger Francisco Javier expelled from Simba ahead of their 2-1 over men’s basement side Rockets on Sunday.
Javier clashed with Simba manager and captain Muhammad Ali, during the halftime break of their 4-1 loss to KHC on August 20.

“Javier insists that I complain a lot but I was just talking at the time. I felt that I cannot get the respect of the rest of the team when he says such things so we raised voices,” Ali explained then downplaying their spar.
However on Sunday, it was clear from the moment Simba turned up in replicas of the Real Madrid jersey, for their match that Javier had been thrown out. The jersey had been sidelined since last year because Javier, a Barcelona fan from Catalonia, felt uncomfortable in a rival’s colours.
“If Javier cannot respect founders of Simba, we do not need him,” Ali confirmed on Sunday.
