Fatuh Kiggundu, Alestair Blick, Fortune Sentamu and Waleed Omar ensured that there was an exciting finale to the Mountain Dew National Motocross Championship season at the weekend.
All four won their respective categories at the Garuga race track but it was Sentamu and Wazir Omar who provided some of the day’s best action in the 65cc category. The pair has been close all season and there was little to separate them on the day as Waleed won the first run before Sentamu recovered to win the subsequent two runs as the pair finished on 69 points. The result though was enough for Sentamu to maintain his 14 point lead and subsequently win the 65cc class.
Waleed Omar claimed the overall 50cc class, winning two of the three heats on the day to finish with 72 points, three ahead of Aslan Farooq while Blick got maximum points to comfortably clinch the 85cc class.
The family duel between Fatuh and Talha Kiggundu saw the former winning all three heats but it was Talha who emerged MX2 overall champion having held a 45-point lead over Talha, going into the final round. Ahmed Tamale came in third position as the Kiggundu pair wrapped up the first two positions in that category.
In the MX1 class, Maxime Van Pee underlined his intentions of dominating that category with a commanding performance on the day that featured an interesting battle between him and Asaf Natan in the first two heats although the latter did not return for the third run. Jesse Kamstra, despite finishing third, won the category since Van Pee and Natan had missed four rounds of this year’s championship.
