Ugandan rower Arnold Omony returns home having achieved a new rowing milestone of a personal best (PB)time of 8.05 at the World Junior Rowing Champions in Hamburg Germany.
In three single sculls, he managed to break his PB two times consecutively.
After rowing 8.30 in the heats last Wednesday, the Maroons Aqua Rowing Club rower managed to break his first posting with a breath-taking 8.12.05 in the repechage.
His coach Rodrick Muhumuza had earlier challenged him to make 7.30 in future, the teenager proved he can only get better when he overcame strong winds to post 8.05 in the semi final E.
“He could have rowed under eight minutes but the headwind disturbed them. Probably the winds were at about 8.6mph,” Muhumuza told Daily Monitor.
Muhumuza returns today morning but will later fly out to China for the Youth Olympic Games where female rower Constance Mbambu will take part in the junior ladies’ single sculls.
