KAMPALA. For a larger part of the last six years, Davis Senono lived in Brian Kasirye’s as the latter worked his way up the ladder in local badminton.
It did not matter what schools Senono competed for – and he represented quite a number; Kibuli SS, Lubiiri and Kakungulu Memorial, Kasirye, who also won silver at the Africa Youth Games in Algeria in July, was always there.

The two combined at times, especially as students of Kakungulu, to win numerous doubles but their meetings will be reduced now that Senono joined Uganda Christian University (UCU).
“He (Kasirye) is a complete player with great skill and he works very hard,” Senono said of his counterpart ahead of the September 28-30 City Tyres East Africa Badminton Challenge.

“He is the kind of player you want to emulate. Unfortunately, we shall not be facing off a lot now but it is time for me to also concentrate on making UCU a better team,” Senono added.
The East Africa City Tyres Badminton Challenge has been bankrolled by the tyres distributors’ spare parts partner Bosch.

“Bosch is committed to research, innovation and social responsibility. This is the first time we are associated with a tournament in Uganda and we are excited about supporting more in the future,” Richard Wandawa, the Bosch representative in Uganda, said at a press conference held to reveal the sponsorship yesterday at City Tyres Sixth Street.
The third edition of the tournament has attracted over 500 entries in the children (Under 10, U13, U15 and U19), professionals (men and women singles and doubles, mixed doubles), universities, nationals, Indians and corporate categories.

“I am humbled that City Tyres and its partners have made it possible for our beautiful game to flourish over the years. This tournament is unique and everyone can get a category to play in,” counsel Shaban Muziransa, the chairman of Uganda Badminton Association (UBA), said.
