St Lawrence on Sunday fell just short of completing the Pepsi National Beach Soccer League first round unbeaten. The defending champions went down 3-4 to Nkumba Select in a tightly-contested Hurriken Group encounter at Lido Beach. The university side had won six games on the trot and victory on Sunday would have seen them finish the first round with a maximum 21 points.

But thanks to the slip-up, St Lawrence are now level on 18 points with Nkumba and Mubs going into the break. Mubs were so clinical on the day, beating Zai Plaza 9-0 and Buwanika Bulls 3-1. In the Monsoon Group, Kira Young trounced Braza Braza 5-3, KIU edged Galacticos 4-3, Baza Supermarket squeezed out a 4-3 win over Richmond Strikers while Stormers beat Kabalagala 3-0. The second round starts on January 26 next year.
