KAMPALA.

Seals Swim Club overcame competition from rivals Dolphins, to amass 468points at the second round of the Seals League at Kampala Parents School, Naguru on Saturday.
The meet was set to be dominated by endurance races.

However, some relays and the 200m breaststroke and butterfly events for all age categories were scrapped midway through the meet owing to a two hour delay with the timing system at the start.

In the past local swimming has been dominated by short distance races and some swimmers evidently struggled with endurance on Saturday.

“Swimmers have to work better under water. It is easy to master the four styles but what you do under water is very important especially in endurance races,” Seals coach Chisela Kanchela, told Sunday Monitor.

“We have been training hard but we had 22 new swimmers who are just getting this competitive experience. I believe there is always room for improvement,” he added.

Dolphins inspired by 12 year olds Adnan Kabuye (31points) and Tendo Mukalazi (24), 10 year olds Kirabo Namutebi (24) and Sine Raphael (29), Selina Katumba, 11 (21) and Arnold Kisulo, 17 (21) amassed 353.5points.

But missing the first round affected their final standings over two rounds.
All scrapped events will be pushed to the third and final round in August and December respectively.
