Imagine getting all Uganda’s sports records with just one click on your computer?

That sounds fictional in a country where sports is more of a past time activity than serious business. But newly-elected Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) president William Blick and his team are promising to do things differently. Blick recently revealed he would try to introduce a corporate governance type of structure at UOC and handle sports as a business.
And Blick and company seem to appreciate the fact that for every business to succeed, record-keeping must be observed to the dot.
As a starting point, UOC are setting up an Electronic Library and Olympic Sports Research Centre.

Information and Communications Technologhy minister Ruhakana Rugunda is expected to launch the centre at UOC’s head offices in Lugogo.
“Many of the fabulous ideas behind this e-library would not be able to get off the drawing board without the financial backing of the International Olympic Committee (IOC),” UOC administrative officer Collins Ssemanda wrote in an email on Wednesday.

At the same time, Stephen Kiprotich will be handed a special medal by IOC at the same function. Kiprotich won the men’s Olympic marathon in London last year.
