Uganda continue dominance at Feassa with netball victory

Musanze- No team outside Uganda has ever won the netball title since the Brookside East Africa Secondary School games were first played in 2002.
That record was again kept intact at this year’s edition hosted in Musanze, Rwanda after St Noa Girls Secondary School reached the final with compatriots St. Mary’s Kitende.

The former went on to clinch a first ever title topping St Mary’s Kitende 36-34 and end their 16 year stronghold on the title.
The performance delighted team Uganda officials at the 10-day competition that was due to end last evening.

“We are satisfied with the results because the objective of these games is of course to win but the other objective is developmental, so one way or another we are satisfied that the things are going on well,” Christopher Mugisha, the general secretary of Uganda Secondary School Sport Association stressed.

Distance to venues
He, however, expressed dismay on unexpected expenses that were created by playgrounds which were found far from players’ hostels.

“For example badminton was being played at between 8 and 10 km away from here, rugby was beeing played 20 kilometers away from here and that’s big distances have created a lot of expenses,” Mugisha noted
In an all Ugandan semi-final in boys’ football Buddo Secondary School edged Blessed Sacrament- Masaka on penalties to reach the final.

Girls’ football saw powerhouse Kawempe Muslim Secondary School eliminate Ecole Secondaire Remera Rukoma (Rwanda) over penalties.

The finals played last evening Buddo Secondary School will play L.D.K(Rwanda) while Kawempe Muslim Secomdary School will face Kanthanze(Kenya).

A total of 16 Ugandan teams of both boys and girls with a total of 765 players and over 100 officials.
