KAMPALA. Team Uganda yesterday registered an impressive start at the World University Netball Championship by thumping United States of America 102-16 at the new Makerere University arena.
The Rashid Mubiru and Imelda Nyongesa-coached side came into this encounter aware of their opponent’s weaknesses after watching them being mauled by defending champions South Africa 115 -05 earlier in the day.
Shooter Sharifa Nalunkuuma and goal attacker and team captain Irene Eyaru netted 21 and 34 goals respectively to put Uganda 55-9 at half time.
The two were replaced by shooter Mary Nuba and goal attacker Victor Nantumbwe.

Though the pair scored 15 and 32 goals respectively, a lot of attempts that would have yielded goals were missed by the latter.
Eyaru believes that her team will continue to put up an outstanding show in the next fixtures.
“The start has not been bad and we expect to go on and win the remaining fixtures,” she observed.
Other players that put up a brilliant show were Joan Nampungu in wing defence and Betty Kizza in the centre, who was later replaced by Joyce Nakibuule in the third quarter.
