We now know that record basketball league champions, Falcons, have a new chairman. Friday Kagoro was last week unveiled as the club’s new chairman after Dennis Mbidde opted out.
We know that Kagoro has since spectacularly promised to make Falcons an indomitable force in the region. Sam Obol, the club’s new coach, has been tasked with the responsibility of rattling Falcons’ trophy cabinet out of its slumber.
We know that Falcons’ last silverware came in 2007 courtesy of Thomas ‘Smatts’ Olumbo’s magic wand. The club has since fallen on some lean times; never mind that it’s been to two basketball league finals in the past three years.
Most importantly, we know that for Falcons to be competitive this year, it will have to hold on to its star attractions. But with Jeff Omondi gone and Abdullahi Ramathan as well as Philip Ameny rumoured to be on their way out, what chance that Falcons will be able to add to its half a dozen titles? Time will surely tell. They still have the doyen of Ugandan basketball -- Stephen Omony -- on their roster after all!
