KAMPALA. The She Cranes open their 2015 Netball World Cup campaign against Zambia on Friday, then play Fiji a day later before wrapping up their group games against Wales on Monday.
It is the last of the three games, however, that She Cranes captain Peace Proscovia believes could be pivotal to their tournament.
“It will be tough because it will be our last game and could decide whether we qualify or not,” Proscovia told the Daily Monitor before the team travelled to Sydney last week.
“The good thing is I know quite a bit about the Welsh squad having played against many of them in the league. They are very aggressive but I think we also have the ability to beat them,” stated Proscovia who turns out for Loughborough Lightning in the Netball Super League, England’s elite netball competition.
Interestingly nine of the 12 players set to represent Wales were selected from Celtic Dragons, another Netball Super League side.
And Proscovia put in a player of the match performance when Celtic Dragons met her team in the league last season, Loughborough claiming a 58-44 first round win in February before being edged out in the reverse fixture 53-52. Fiji, ranked seventh in the world, are the highest-placed team in Pool D with Wales one position below, while the She Cranes are in 14th position and Zambia 16th.
Meanwhile the She Cranes are expected to play their second pre-tournament game today against Singapore.
