KHC keeper Michael ‘Dante’ Mafabi was indecisive in coming off his line for Weatherhead’s first and third goal.

Kampala.

Kampala Hockey Club (KHC)’s poor defense let them down in their drew 3-3 with Weatherhead in the National Hockey League on Saturday at Lugogo Astro-turf Grounds.

Weatherhead came twice from behind with goals from Richard Watenga and Vincent Kasasa to level the score at 2-2. New signing Coline Batusa and Joshua Gumisiriza scored for KHC but their defense fell apart especially during penalty corners. This was proved when Weatherhead took a 2-3 lead, through Ellis Katwebaze’s conversion from ‘top D’, just after the hour mark.

KHC keeper Michael ‘Dante’ Mafabi was indecisive in coming off his line for Weatherhead’s first and third goal.
But his lethargic defence, comprising Stanley Tamale, Timothy Ntumba and George Ntegeka, was equally at fault for exposing their goalkeeper for larger parts of the game.

As the minutes drifted away at 2-3, they seemed to do so with KHC’s organization.
The defence couldn’t wait to get out of there, perhaps to save themselves from more embarrassment. Then Gumisiriza scored an equalizer, from a penalty corner, with the last touch, right at the death of the game to earn KHC their first point of the season in three games.

The chants said it all; a draw that felt like a win. Weatherhead have seven points in four games.

“The boys don’t train and we are paying on pitch. We were so poor, in that we didn’t even make Weatherhead work for their goals,” KHC Stallion’s captain Sam Mwesigwa, who stressed they didn’t even deserve to get a point from the game, said.

Meanwhile, their ladies’ side KHC Swans continued with their resurgence as they came twice from behind to draw 2-2 with defending champions Weatherhead A.

Josefien de Rider scored a brace for the champions while Sandra Namusoke and Susan Khainza scored for the Swans.
