KAMPALA. Altona Swim Club Uganda has offered to give youths in different communities free swimming lessons.
According to the club chairman Erick Kisero, this inventiveness is part of the club’s objective of searching for young talented youths.
Addressing journalists in Kampala yesterday, he said this initiative is purposely to inspire youths to take up swimming.
“We encourage youth to pick swimming as their career of choice as this would reduce the rate of unemployment and competition in applying for jobs,” he said.
They expect to have more than 100 participants and the lessons are free of charge to youths because they want to get as many participants as they can for the future. He added that many youths can swim but lack access to clubs, which are popular.
“After these lessons, we shall be able to pick the best swimmers who can join our club and take part in the national and international swimming competitions,” he added.
However, Kisero said, the swimming federation still lacks facilitation and funds to move forward.
“We lack swimming suits, pools and trainers,” he remarked.
The lessons will take place in various areas including; Home Pool at Centenary Park on September 26 and December 19. The campaign will also move to Wakiso on October 18 and in various schools on November 22.
