KAMPALA.

The rallying cries of Rugby Cranes coach Robert Seguya for not having trial games before major tournaments will be off his list of excuses if the Rugby Cranes do not meet expected standards in the Gold Cup.
In 10 days, Uganda will play the South African Barbarians in two Tests at Legends Rugby Club before hosting South African side, Cheetahs B, on May 4. By the time the Rugby Cranes are done with the three games, Seguya would have filled his notebook full of the dos and don’ts as Uganda look to push for a berth at the 2019 World Cup.
The 39-year-old African Champion is adamant the buildup games will boost preps as they help players familiarise with match situations, fitness and sharpen awareness. No wonder he expects even a bigger improvement from the side this year although the other sides too are working hard.

Stepped up preparations
“Fans should expect better returns but put in mind that all the other sides have also stepped up their preparations,” Seguya said before calling out every Ugandan to come on board in pursuit of playing at the World Cup in Japan next year. “We also need support from every Ugandan. It goes beyond players, Union and fans but the government and corporate companies to offer timely support.”
The games will also give payers opportunity to push for places in the 35 man squad expected to navigate the Gold Cup in June.
“I expect 100% from everyone. Every player must perform beyond average if they are to keep their places,” warned Seguya.
With the sevens national players expected back in the country from Australia later today, Seguya will now have a strong crop for the remaining sessions. Uganda starts their Gold Cup campaign on June 16 away in Namibia.
