NAIROBI-Uganda will renew their well documented rivalry with Kenya in the semifinals of the GOtv Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup if they sort the small matter that is Tanzania and Kenya an issue that is Rwanda.

The Cranes face Kilimanjaro Stars in Mombasa in the early quarterfinal this afternoon before the Harambee Stars square off with Amavubi later on. Locals and neutrals here would have loved the 13-time champions, Uganda, to meet hosts Kenya in the final but it turns out they can only catch up in the semis.

Micho Sredojevic’s side, the only side to make the last eight with maximum points from three group games, will fancy their chances against a team they have beaten four times in the last five meetings, with the other one – a draw at the Nile Basin tournament in Egypt.

The Serb, Micho, is cautious with his words but is confident of progressing to the semis. “We face a very tough team Tanzania that has rested enough,” he told Saturday Monitor after Thursday’s 1-0 victory over Sudan.

“We face a team that is high psychologically after the arrival of two TP Mazembe experienced players Thomas Ulimwengu and Samata, so I’m expecting a very, very tough match.”
