Heathens are now record 13 time league champions after wrapping up this year’s Nile Special Premiership title on Saturday against Rhinos at Kyadondo with a hard earned 27-16 bonus point win.
Prior to Saturday’s round of league games, Heathens coach Mohammed Athiyo had played down talk of clinching the title but Pirates’ failure to get a bonus point against Betway Kobs did them a favour and they can focus on finishing the season unbeaten. Heathens now have an unassailable 11 point lead and can afford to lose their last two league games.
“We want more than winning the title,” Heathens captain Romano Ogwal told Daily Monitor. “We also want to complete the season with only wins,” he added.

Pirates have over the years failed to show up when it mattered over big teams but their win over Kobs on Saturday, the second in their last three meetings, speaks volumes on how tables could be turning although Musinguzi demands they do the same against Heathen on Friday.
“I have been fighting that fear the boys have had for the big teams and its slowly fading,” said Musinguzi. “We now need to start beating the big sides on a regular and a win on Friday would show how the side has matured,” he reasoned.
Kobs look like they have a lot of work on their hands after a worrying display that left many wondering whether there is to the eye in their camp and captain Brian Asaba decried his side`s failure to convert their chance like in the good old days.
“We need to use our chances whenever we get into our opponent’s 22 yard area,” he said as he cut a frustrated figure after losing to Pirates in the league for the first time since 2011.
Henry Musisi ran the show as Warriors showed no love to Impis while Rams spiritedness was not enough against Buffaloes at Kyadondo.
