KAMPALA.

Betway Kobs will stroll onto the Kyadondo grounds turf on Saturday for their last Nile Special Rugby Premier League game of the season expecting a guard of honour from rivals Hima Cement Heathens.

Kobs at the weekend secured the league title with a game to spare and there can’t be a better venue for them to be crowned champions than the home of their bitter rivals Heathens.

“They should give it (guard of honour) to us as a sign of respect and sportsmanship. We see it done allover the world,” Kobs player Oscar Kalyango told Daily Monitor yesterday. Last year, Buffaloes denied Heathens a guard of honour on the last day of the season.

One senior Heathens player, Mathias Ochwo, though thinks they should let Kobs enjoy their day since his side can only finish second even with a massive win on Saturday.
“I think we should give it to them. They are champions with a game to spare so I have no problem clapping them out,” reasoned Ochwo.

Unlike Ochwo, Heathens team manager, Emmanuel Baine, is yet to make his mind about honouring Kobs. “ We are yet to think about it since it is not mandatory,” Baine noted yesterday. Heathens won their fixture at the weekend, beating Rhinos 43-18, and they had hoped for a Kobs collapse to push the league to the final weekend.

However, Kobs wouldn’t be made to wait. They swept aside Buffaloes with six first half tries, including a memorable one from young winger Michael Amolo, to reclaim the title from Heathens. Having finished the first half leading 41-6, many expected an obscene score from Kobs but several subsitutions weakened their side after recess. This gave Buffaloes room to lessen the deficit.
