Kobs hold advantage ahead of Heathens clash

Kobs lie second in the table, one point ahead of Heathens ahead of the biggest rugby game in country next Saturday

KAMPALA.
The biggest rugby game in country is due next Saturday when Heathens take on reigning champions Kobs.

With the two teams separated by just a point, anticipation is high after last Saturday’s results saw Kobs leapfrog Heathens into second on 23 points after putting up probably their best performance of the season against Rhinos in a 25-9 win. Heathens are third with 22 points.

“It’s been a work in progress. Since the season began, we have been looking for the right combinations and we just got clicking today against Rhinos,” Kobs captain Brian Odongo told Daily Monitor.

As the rest of the teams head into their two- week Christmas break, Heathens and Kobs will have a settle the score at Kyadondo next Saturday having missed out on taking on each other last week due to Dennis Mulo’s wedding.

Kobs had accustomed their fans to average displays through this season until an early scare from Rhinos, who at some stage led 6-0 forced the best out of them.

“They promised to beat us even before the game. That confidence from them forced the best out of us because this more than just a game, it’s a derby,” claimed Kobs’ scrumhalf Davis Kiwalabye.

Mongers stayed on top of the table with 25 points after a 13-26 win over struggling Mutoni Warriors.Pirates are slowly forcing their way into the top half of the league after a string of dismal shows at the beginning of the season but a 11-31 win against Impis will be taken as a blessing as they head into the Christmas break in fifth position on the log.
