We are not favourites to win the Uganda Cup, says Kobs coach Miriko

Kampala.

It’s a tournament that only newly appointed Shell Rimula Rhino coach Brian Makalama has stated his goal as winning to feel satisfied.

All the others have tried to deflect attention ahead of the Nile Special Uganda Cup kick-off tomorrow. “We want to win everything from the Uganda Cup to the league,” Makalama bellowed in a recent interview.

“Things are going to be different and no one should take us light(ly),” he stated. His Hima Cement Heathens opposite Mohammed Athiyo sought not to be judged until after the tournament.

Italian Dam Miriko Morlin, the Betway Kobs coach, would rather be Athiyo than Makalama even if his side and defending Heathens often define even rugby event here. “We are not favourites in this completion,” Morlin Daily Monitor, quickly adding; “but, we shall do our best to win it.”

Kobs have already won the league and national 7s title this year which leaves the Uganda Cup as the other teams’ final shot at preventing a clean sweep.

“The league and the 7s are in the past,” the often quiet Morlin, who often spots a long beard synonymous with Israeli Rabbis, said.

Unlike Rhino who signed forwards Mathias Ochwo (Heathens) and Scot Oluoch (sabbatical), Kobs haven’t added significant names to their roster.

Lock Ernest Byarugaba has joined from Makerere Impis and could start at Kyadondo when Kobs face KK Stallions. Morlin understands that knock-out competitions don’t leave room for mistakes.

“Mistakes are not allowed, limit your mistakes and you have a greater chance of doing well,” he advised. His captain Oscar Kalyango wants to emulate the class of 2006 that won a treble.

“It’s (winning three titles) something we have not done since 2006 and there would not be a better way to end the year,” Kalyango said.
