Kobs to play Pirates in Uganda Cup final

KAMPALA. Betway Kobs will take on holders Black Pirates in the Uganda Cup final on Saturday at Legends Rugby Club.
It will also be Kobs’ first Cup final since 2015 when they lost 13-10 to Heathens at the same venue.
A 10-8 win over rivals Hima Cement Heathens at Legends on Saturday ensured Kobs progress to the Cup final, on the same note denying Heathens a place in the Cup final for the first time since 2011 when Pirates met Kobs in Jinja.
Two first half tries from back rows Brian Asaba and Ronald Musajja is all the new-look Kobs posted in a game that had more than half of the players experiencing their first Kobs-Heathen clash.
The men in blue dominated early on and could have killed off the game but indecisive finishing held them back. A Romano Ogwal try and Kevin Keremundu penalty garnered Heathens’ points to give the game a nervy finish.
“We could have played better and probably put the game to bed in the first thirty minutes. We can’t complain because we won and we are going to play in the final,” said Kobs coach Fred Mudoola, who was taking charge of his second game after returning to the dugout.
Pirates will make a third consecutive appearance in the Uganda Cup final after digging deep to beat Buffaloes 23-9.

“I think the team is improving in terms of the ratio of line breaks created to points scored. Given that it’s beginning of season, the skill levels won’t be the same after a month or two of week-in, week-out rugby,” he noted.
