What you need to know:

Rugby. The national topflight rugby league side will stage a charity run in Entebbe on Saturday to raise funds for the cause. They need about Shs80m to complete the entire project.

KAMPALA. After using the Entebbe Secondary School pitch as their home ground for many years, rugby side Mongers have decided to construct their own facility.
With the help of Entebbe Mayor, Vincent Kayanja, Mongers acquired two acres of land in Katabi, Busambaga in Entebbe where the stadium is to be constructed. The site is in a clear view of Lake Victoria.
“The land was initially acquired on a 33-year lease with an open extension to up to 99 years when the project is completed,” Mongers captain John Wandicho told Daily Monitor.

Mayor Kayanja confirmed his support towards the project as the land was gazetted by the municipality for a recreational center.

“As a local authority, it is part of our obligations to support recreation and sport. We signed an MOU with them (Mongers) to set up a modern rugby facility,” Kanyanja said.

The entire project is expected to cost up to Shs80m catering for the playing surface, the stands and a well club house. At the moment, the club are searching for Shs15m to complete the turf as the rest wait.
“The Shs15m can help us finish the playing turf so that we start using the grounds as early as possible,” said Wandicho. With their bank account wanting, Mongers have opted to use a charity run to help raise part of the required amount.

The run will take place this Saturday starting from the Mayor’s Gardens, Entebbe. Participants will compete in the 5km and 10km race categories.
“We hope the public will partake in the marathon and help us raise the Shs15m,” an optimistic Wandicho noted.
Tickets for the run are on sale at Kyadondo Rugby Club (Christine Kizito) Victoria Mall Entebbe, Shell Entebbe (MTN shop) and Freedom Tree, next to Total Central Market.
