What you need to know:

  • On top of Musoke’s hat trick was Andrew Oduka’s try and Markmot’s penalty that helped the hosts tally 27 points on the scoreboard. Buffaloes gave themselves a fair chance of taking something from the game through Eddie Kayima and Paul Epillo tries.
  • Winning margin. Shell Rimula Rhinos were not at their lethal best despite defeating Toyota Buffaloes 27-21 on Friday.
  • "Like the captain (Ivan Markmot) said, we played below our potential despite winning. Next week presents a harder task which will need us to show up with our ‘A’ game. We cannot hold back in that game.” JOHN MUSOKE - MAN OF MATCH RHINOS VS. BUFFALOES

KAMPALA. Two first half tries and another in the second from veteran John Musoke inspired a ‘blunt’ Shell Rimula Rhinos side past Toyota Buffaloes in the Nile Special Rugby Premiership at Legends on Friday.

Playing as if still suffering from a hangover from last week’s 13-3 win over Betway Kobs, Rhinos kept helping Buffaloes get back into the game with numerous penalties and handling errors.
No wonder captain Ivan Markmot was not moved by the final result as he pointed at the small details his side has struggled to clean up.

“We played a very poor game with too many handling areas. We are better than what we put out day,” he told Sunday Monitor.
Man of the match Musoke, who also happens to be interim coach, was at par with his captain’s analysis of the game as they prepare to take on leaders Buzz Black Pirates next week.

“Like the captain said, we played below our potential despite winning. Next week presents a harder task which will need us to show up with our ‘A’ game,” Musoke echoed Markmot’s message.

On top of Musoke’s hat trick was Andrew Oduka’s try and Markmot’s penalty that helped the hosts tally 27 points on the scoreboard. Buffaloes gave themselves a fair chance of taking something from the game through Eddie Kayima and Paul Epillo tries.

Wilfred Seguya adding two penalties while Stephen Alul nailed a drop goal to ensure Buffaloes head back to Kyadondo with a losing bonus point. Rhinos, however, must solve their discipline issues after flank Francis Odonga became their second player to be sent off in as many games. “We missed a number of our players and it hampered our preparations. The result could have been different,” Buffaloes captain Simon ‘Diego’ Olet told this paper.

The result sees Rhinos overtake Kobs into second.
They could, however, find themselves back in third, depending on the outcome of the game between Plascon Entebbe Mongers and Kobs that would have been played by yesterday.
