What you need to know:

  • If Wokorach's try was a sweet one, Emilly Lekuru's was better. She ran from her half and scored Uganda's second 5-pointer of the game, effectively tying the game at 10-all.
  • Uganda's late rally for another try fell short and the Tunisians must have counted themselves lucky.

Rugby. Uganda Lady Cranes romped to a 20-07 victory over Zimbabwe in their opening game at the ongoing Rugby Afrique Women's 7s tournament in Gaborone, Botswana.

Uganda took the lead through unconverted tries from Juliet Nandawula and Immaculate Mufuwa. Caroline Mulenga relied for Zimbabwe with a converted try at the stroke of half-time.

Uganda returned stronger, with Nandawula touching down for her second and former captain Emmanuela Oroma put the icing on the cake for a full-time score of 20-07.

In the second game, Uganda rallied from a 10-00 first half deficit to draw 10-10 with Tunisia.
The Carthage Eagles scored their tries through Oumayma Dziri and Amel Dardouri.

Tunisia beat Uganda twice in last year's edition which they hosted in Tunis, and were destined for the same, at least until the second half.

First, Dziri stepped her way around the Ugandan defense but Oroma put up a chase and unleashed a try-saving tackle.

From that minute, the game swung into Uganda's favour. Peace Wokorach picked the ball from the base of the scrum and sprinted down the right wing to score her first ever international try.

If Wokorach's try was a sweet one, Emilly Lekuru's was better. She ran from her half and scored Uganda's second 5-pointer of the game, effectively tying the game at 10-all.

Uganda's late rally for another try fell short and the Tunisians must have counted themselves lucky.

Games continue on Sunday.
