Rugby Cranesbeat Tonga in opening Series qualifier

The Rugby Sevens Cranes showed early intent by comfortably brushing aside Tonga 29-0 in their opening Pool E game at the HSBC World Rugby Series qualifiers in Hong Kong this morning.

A try apiece from Ramathan Govule, Phillip Wokorach, Micheal Wokorach and Lawrence Sebuliba double did the magic for the Ugandans who still have to play Germany and Jamaica to advance to the quarters.

With spirits high after the Tonga demolition which saw Marvin Odongo, Fred Odur and Timothy Kisiga all make debuts, Uganda are in the right shape of mind to conquer the Germans who also defeated Jamaica 31-12 in the other pool E game.

Uganda play German at 11am today and Jamaica in the wee hours of Saturday morning at 4:44am.

Uganda has to overcome 11 other sides in the qualifiers if they are gain core status as HSBC Series members next year. Their qualification will guarantee a 10-leg tour which will see them traverse cities like London, Glasgow, Las Vegas, Melbourne, Vancouver and Paris among others.
