URU to act on Pirates-Heathens mayhem

The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) is bound to launch an investigation regarding the unfortunate proceedings that unfolded on Saturday at Legends Rugby Club as Pirates took on Protector Heathens in the Nile Special Super 8 premiership.

With the score at 11-25 in favour of Heathens, there was a moment of madness when a scuffle broke out between players from both sides. The genesis of the brawl was when Heathens hooker Paul Serunjogi and Pirates` Hamzah Kinyera took matters into their own hands before teammates came to separate them in what later turned out to be a galore of punches.

What was transpiring on pitch forced some fans to get into the thick of the action. Protector Heathens` fan George Nyeko did not waste any time letting out his frustration by throwing a jab to Pirates` Fred Ochan who was an unused substitute. The center referee Charlie Mungoma had to stop the game for five minutes in an effort to cool tensions.

URU will act on the responsible parties as soon as they analyse both the match and team managers` reports.

“we have heard what happened but we need to get referee’s and team manager`s reports before we can take any action,” said URU development manager Yayiro Kasasa.

In the past, a number of people have been banned in regard to violent conduct during games.
