Within 10 days, all the 10 clubs should have shaken off the rust from the break as the highly anticipated league kicks off in four different venues on the opening day
KAMPALA. As clubs take rests after another grueling Uganda Cup campaign, the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has released the 2017/2018 Rugby Premiership schedules with the league confirmed to kick off on November 18.
Within 10 days, all the 10 clubs should have shaken off the rust from the break as the highly anticipated league kicks off in four different venues on the opening day. Holders Hima Cement Heathens travel to Jinja to play newcomers Hippos at Dam Waters, Impis and Rams host Buzz Pirates and Betway Kobs respectively in Makerere.
Warriors, enjoying a fifth season as a top flight side, open their campaign against title hopefuls Rimula Rhinos as Toyota Buffaloes head to Entebbe to grind it out with Plascon Mongers.
The fixtures also indicate the return of the University League which had not been active for some time now. Uganda Christian University, Makerere University Business School, Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi, Busoga University and Kampala International University will take on each other in round robin format for a period of 10 weeks.
Hima Heathens coach Mohammed Athiyo who won the league on his first attempt last term, also lost the Uganda Cup final to Pirates 20-31 but he is relishing the challenge of defending the league.
“The Uganda Cup is gone, it’s now time to focus on the league and make sure we defend it,” he told Daily Monitor on Saturday.
