KAMPALA
Pretty is perhaps the last thing anyone would have expected from DMark Kobs and G4S Pirates as the two faced off at Legends Rugby Club – former Kampala ground – on Saturday.
They didn’t disappoint in that sense and their clash wasn’t pretty on the eye and possibly further confirmed this as MTN Heathens’ title to lose. Kobs came through the Nile Special Super 8 Rugby League game as 5-3 victors.
Hooker James Kimono scored the only try in the second half to move Kobs to 23 points in second, two less than leaders Heathens.
Both teams really struggled for rhythm in the Kampala derby before the tiniest crowd and most dour atmosphere in recent memory. However, a large percentage of the game was played in Pirates’ half. That’s an ominous sign for them as they face Heathens, now five bonus points in as many games to the good, on Friday.
“We were pleased with our performance,” scrumhalf Davis Kyewalabye said. It was quite an assessment as they never got going in attacking sense. Several halfhearted breaks didn’t add up and Anthony Kinene’s penalty in the second half is all Pirates had to show.
