Wokorach stars as MVP at Amsterdam 7s

KAMPALA. Phillip Wokorach`s growing reputation hit a new high over the weekend as he propelled Samurai to victory in the Amsterdam Sevens at the National Rugby Centrum, Netherlands.

The Rugby Sevens Cranes vice-captain managed pulled strings with five tries on top of a praiseworthy general performance to hand Samurai the bragging rights of the tournament.

"I enjoyed the whole experience of playing with people from different backgrounds and the award means a lot to me. It motivates me to keep working hard with more to achieve," Wokorach told Daily Monitor.

The Samurai, an international invitational 7s club, has played two tourneys, Algarve 7s and Amsterdam 7s, in the last two weeks with Wokorach featuring on both occasions. The side consists of players from six countries namely New Zealand, England, Fiji, Kenya, and South Africa with a technical team comprising of officials from Ireland, Wales and England.

Wokorach is also expected to link up with the Rugby Cranes, who leave for Namibia later this week for their opening Africa Gold Cup tie against the holders. He will also be Uganda`s poster boy when the double Africa Champions make a bow at the Rugby Sevens World Cup in San Francisco, USA next month.

The Amsterdam 7s mvp accolade is the latest of many of Wokorach`s collection, both local and international, in what is growing into an industrious career with more to come.
