Uganda Cranes striker Brian Umony will ply his trade in American topflight league, Major League Soccer (MLS) until the end of the season.
The former KCC and SuperSport United striker will feature for MLS side Portland Timbers on a season long loan, Umony’s agent Paul Mitchel of Siyavuma Sports Agency confirmed to Sunday Monitor. “Portland have also been given an option to sign him permanently if he impresses their technical team during his loan period,” added Mitchel.
Umony is looking forward to his stint in the US. “I never shy away from competition. When a chance shows up, I always work hard to impress,” the striker said.
The 23-year-old has spent the last eight months with South African second division side Pretoria Tuks. Umony was the hottest striker in the country two years ago when his goals fired KCC to the title but has struggled to make an impression in South Africa.
