If Ghana’s Black Stars, the four-time African champions, can put on a spectacular show in these weeks on the pitch like they displayed on arrival on Friday evening, then we are in for a treat.

For two hours, Leon Mba International Airport was turned into Kotoko International Airport in Accra. When the Ghanaian national team touched down from South Africa where they have been based for the past two weeks, there was pandemonium.

Ghana have won nothing yet but that did not stop fans from singing names of their heroes, in particular the Ayew brothers Andre and Jordan, who have made the headlines at Olympique Marseille.

Ghanaian players, who open their campaign on Tuesday against Botswana, are hoping to go all the way two years after impressing at the World Cup.

Captain John Mensah is a man on a mission after he missed the final against Egypt in 2010 following two yellow cards. “I am still disappointed for missing out on the final but we are now a mature side, which will be vital for us.”
