Newly promoted side Maroons are assured of sustainability in the upcoming league if Uganda Prisons Commissioner General Johnson Byabashaija’s words are to be believed.

Maroons qualified for the Uganda Super League which starts next month along with Gulu Uniteda and Utoda from the Big League. “I congratulate the entire Maroons team for this success and I am not surprised that we are back in the Super League.

We have the financial capability and commitment to look after the team,” Byabashaija said during a ceremony to honour the team’s success on Wednesday.
He even had time to take a swipe at the famed big three of Ugandan football. “I assure those big clubs like KCC, SC Villa and Express that Maroons is back. They should wait for serious competition.”

Maroons, who play their home games at Luzira Prisons grounds, were relegated two years ago. Just like the Big League final when they beat Gulu, they start with the same opposition on September 17.

“Concentrate on playing football and your allowances for every game will be paid. Adopt values of discipline, honesty and professionalism,” said Byabashaija.
