Inaugural winner of Fufa Drum winner to receive Shs32m prize money

KAMPALA- By Ugandan standards, the Shs32m prize money for Fufa Drum tourney winner is money worth dying for.
As the curtains fall on the inaugural provincial tourney that has lasted eight months this weekend, Fufa have released the breakdown of the Shs100m promised midway through the campaign.
With a slight 1-0 lead from the first leg, Buganda are in pole position to pocket Shs32m but with West Nile hosting the return leg in Arua tomorrow, they too may have a claim on the cash prize - if they overturn the result.
According to Fufa Drum organizing chairman Rogers Byamukama, the runners-up will get Shs15m while the semi-finalists will get Shs5m each.
There are cash prizes to individual accolades like MVP (shs1m), top scorer (Shs1m), best fan (shs1m) and best coach (shs1m).
URA and Bugisu goalkeeper James Alitho, whose goal scoring exploits have lit up the competition, is assured of the Shs1m cash prize even though his team was eliminated at the quarterfinal stage by West Nile region.
Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) partnered with Fufa for a while with Shs75m package with the company deputy CEO, John Ssempebwa stating that they were impressed with the objectives of the tournament and its impact on the people.
The winner of the Uganda Premier League, Vipers, were awarded Shs60m out of the Shs128m share-out last season.
