Airtel Rising Stars Season III launched

The much awaited third edition of the Airtel Rising Stars was officially launched at Old Kampala Senior Secondary School on Friday.

The telecommunication giants along with its official partner Arsenal Football Club and device partner Samsung hurled the campaign. The youth programme seeks to unearth talent and give them an opportunity to excel on both national and international scene.

Speaking at the launch of the tournament, former Cranes and SC Villa defender Phillip Obwiny, who serves as the Airtel ambassador, expressed his excitement at the event and also echoed his views.

“The youth serve as the brightest spot for a nation and this kind of initiative is the way to go,” said Obwiny. “The youngsters should be inspired by the likes of David Obua, Ibrahim Sekagya and me as well among others who have grown through such youth projects to be what we are in football.” On the other hand, Samsung Uganda Country Manager Amit Patel said they were happy to be associated with such development aimed at tapping talent.

“Within the framework of Airtel Rising Stars, Ugandan youth have an opportunity to exhibit their talent,” explained Patel. This year’s competition will kick start on June 1 with registration of teams in eight Fufa regions getting underway next week at different Airtel outlets.
