KAMPALA.

The senior national football team Cranes returns to competitive action in September with a 2019 Afcon qualifying home fixture against Tanzania.
By then they will have started benefitting financially from their newest partner Betlion.
This is after the online betting company was unveiled as the Cranes’ seventh partner at a glamorous function held at Protea Hotel yesterday morning.
Betlion join Airtel, National Insurance Corporation, Nile Breweries, Bidco Uganda Limited, EcoBank and Rwenzori as the other Cranes sponsors.
“We are definitely very happy to get another partner who is of great repute. This is because of the brand we have built over time both as Fufa and the Uganda Cranes,” Fufa Vice President Justus Mugisha who represented federation president Moses Magogo said in his remarks.
In his remarks read by Mugisha, Magogo expressed excitement about the addition of Betlion as “further proof of stewardship of football in the country based on the concrete pillars of governance, accountability, transparency, and excellence.” Betlion group CEO Oliver Bates meanwhile did not divulge the details of the total sum the national team stands to benefit over the five-year period.
He, however, explained ways how the Uganda Cranes will benefit from the contract that is also performance based.
The company launched a Shs150m “Cranes jackpot” where fans can enter after staking Shs3000.
Betlion will then contribute revenue from the 13-game jackpot that will run weekly with proceeds going towards the development of the Uganda Cranes and wider Ugandan football.
“We are proud to announce our long term partnership with the Uganda Cranes. It is one that is focused on supporting the ongoing development of football in Uganda,” stated Bates.
He also revealed a clause in the partnership where Cranes will earn more if they rise in Fifa rankings and when they qualify for major international tournaments such as Afcon.
The company also pledged to help woo coaches to assist the various Fufa projects.
