In Summary
Uganda Golf Club and Entebbe will have to share the numbers when they host to annual events today.
Herbert Rwamibazi is confident he can retain his title when the Captain’s Prize tournament tees off this morning at the par-72 Uganda Golf Club, Kitante course. There is no doubt the annual showpiece, hosted by Captain Charles Katarikawe, will struggle to march the heady heights of last weekend’s Lady Captain’s Prize that was won by Katy Kabenge.
But that will not take away the competition as Rwamibazi aims to shrug off competition from at least 120 golfers as he bids to win a second successive Hima Cement-sponsored Captain’s Prize.
“My start to the year has been good golf-wise,” Rwamibazi told Saturday Monitor. Last weekend I won the men’s Group B with 72 nett and I feel confident I will put up a spirited defence.”
Across town in Entebbe, the Castle Lite/Orange Mug for the month of March is expected to attract 80 golfers. There has been no runaway winner so far for both the ladies and the men. Whereas Innocent Kihika won the Mug in January, it is Ivan Mwebaze that leads the chart with 125 points.
