Chairman’s Cup victory elates Ram

In Summary

Golf. Handicap 17 golfer Shaban Ram joins an enviable list of sportsmen from other disciplines that have undertaken golf and won.

ENTEBBE. Shaban Ram is still over the moon after winning the Chairman’s Cup at Entebbe Golf Club course on Saturday.

Ram collected 40 stableford points to edge national team stars Willy Kitata and Henry Lujja plus the men’s Group B winner Elly ‘Sober’ Mukasa by three points in a tough tournament where each of the 136 golfers used only four clubs for the entire round.

“This is my first win since I returned to golf early this year,” said the former national junior tennis star, who started playing in 1998 but quit in 2006 as a 10-handicapper to concentrate on his undergraduate degree at Makerere.

“I never thought I would win such a tournament because I hardly practice. I am back in school doing a Master of Science in Procurement.”
