The team is expected to start training at Mandela National, Namboole, on May 7 ahead of the qualifiers that start with a trip to Antananarivo, Madagascar on the weekend starting May 16.

KAMPALA- Uganda Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic has said five players constitute the backbone of his team. They are goalkeeper Dennis Onyango, Andrew Mwesigwa, Geoffrey Massa as well as midfielders Tony Mawejje and Hassan Wasswa.

It is Wasswa’s name, however, that attracted the most attention after the Serbian tactician announced his 35-man squad yesterday for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification campaign.

The midfielder has not played for any side since he featured in January for the Cranes Chan team although Micho insisted the player still had a lot to offer.

“We are looking at the entire qualification campaign not basically this coming match,” Micho laboured to answer a barrage of questions from journalists about the matter.
“The problem is that we focusing a lot of our energy on the negative things,” Micho responded as the questions kept coming in.

“May be we have not qualified for 37 years (for Afcon) because you do not generate positive energy. That is what we should all be focusing on,” he explained.
