Coach Mutebi vows to punish Shaban

Kampala. The Ugandan football fraternity unanimously agrees that Muhammad Shaban is a must-have jewel but his impeccable striking abilities have always been surpassed by his repeated disciplinary recklessness.
His latest clash with strict KCCA manager Mike Mutebi ruled him out of Saturday’s KCCA 1-0 Uganda Cup triumph over Vipers at Bukedea leaving the club with one striking option – Patrick Kaddu.
“We would have played better with him in the side but he is unruly. I won’t entertain that anymore,” Mutebi said after Julius Poloto’s 42nd minute header had secured KCCA’s tenth cup title.

“With my young guns Allan Okello and Poloto bravely standing up to do the job, I won’t hesitate to drop him. We are going to punish him because his dad has tried to prevail over him but he has failed.”
Shaban never trained with KCCA when he returned with Cranes from Niger on Monday claiming he had an injury.
KCCA played 20 minutes a man less after midfielder Sadam Juma was shown the exit for a second bookable offense and that to Mutebi show the true character of the team.
“Unlike Vipers, we are playing in the Caf Champions League group stages and rubbing shoulders with the continent’s best. My boys just knew how to fight on thereafter and we got victory,” he added.

Mutebi revealed that his game approach at an ‘unfriendly’ pitch outwitted Vipers leading to his players Charles Lukwago (best goalkeeper), Allan Okello (MVP) and Patrick Kaddu (top scorer) to scoop awards. “This young team has belief that they can beat anybody. We may lose some experienced players (in the transfer window) but I’m going to build my team around them.”
Vipers’ stand-in skipper Taddeo Lwanga told Daily Monitor the team gave it their whole but Lady Luck just didn’t smile their way.
“It wasn’t our day and the pitch was very bad. That said, we learned lessons like using our chances because there are few during a final.” He was spot on, vipers missed a couple.
