KAMPALA.

Nile Breweries yesterday extended their partnership with local soccer governing body, Fufa, in a deal worth Shs4b. Under the partnership, the beer company is to sponsor a number of Cranes activities over a four-year period starting in October.

The agreement, disclosed to the media at the company’s offices in Luzira, is an improvement from the current Shs1.2b three-year deal between the two parties.

“As a brand, we take special pride in partnerships that bring us together as Ugandans and the national team is one such platform,” Nile Breweries Marketing Director, Daniel Ogong, said at the event.

The deal, under Nile Breweries’ Nile Special brand, will see Shs1.8b go directly to the federation to help fund the national team with the rest of the money catering for other campaigns like the Cranes na Mutima tours launched last year. Fufa vice-president, Justus Mugisha, expressed pleasure at the deal that he believes has improved on the popularity of the game in the country.

“This is a company with the longest history of supporting football in the country and we are excited they are coming back in a stronger way because they have made our team more popular,” Mugisha stated. The company also handed over Shs54m as the sum collected from last year’s SMS campaign that was geared at supporting the national team’s welfare.
