Crested Cranes’ Sseninde joins Mata’s Common Goal project

KAMPALA. Crested Cranes and Crystal Palace player, Jean Sseninde, is one of the latest players to have joined Juan Mata’s Common Goal initiative, where they pledge to donate 1 per cent of their salaries to charities all over the world.

Spain and Manchester United star, Mata launched the initiative two months ago and it has already attracted other global superstars like Mats Hummels, Giorgio Chiellini and Serge Gnabry. The women include Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Heather O’Reilly, Olga Garcia, Vero Boquete, Pauline Bremer and Sseninde, among others.

“To welcome six players from five countries and four continents, all with the courage to drive forward the movement in their respective regions of the world, is a proud moment for myself and the rest of the team,” Mata told the Common Goal website.“A special day for me today to be first Ugandan and African player to sign with Common Goal. Together with five other incredible high profile players that shall embark on making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than us,” posted Sseninde.
Sseninde already plays a starring role through the Sseninde Foundation, where she leads efforts to empower girls and women through football.

Last year, she launched the Jean Sseninde Women Football Development tournament, which will be hosted annually, majorly to discover and nurture talent.
The long-term vision of Common Goal is to unlock 1 per cent of the entire football industry’s enormous revenue - conservatively believed to be worth around $30bn per year - to help fund grassroots charities that use football to strengthen communities.
