KAMPALA. The most fierce competition in the Fufa Drum tourney resides in Group D. Here, leaders West Nile have accrued eight points from four games and are just two points better than second placed Ankole.
Third placed Tooro and Karamoja are tied on four points each. Simply put, qualification is still a possibility for all with two matches left.
“We are going to munch Tooro and West Nile so that we top the group. The league action has in a way disrupted us but we are now ready to show our might,” Ankole coach Hassan Tembo told Sunday Monitor.

The former U-20 midfielder leads The Lions to Buhinga Stadium this afternoon well aware of what the opponents have up in their sleeves.
“Tooro has one of the best midfield assemblage but they are not as lethal in front of goal. The experience we have makes outright favourites,” says Tembo.

Building on the players from Mbarara City and newly promoted Nyamityobora, Tembo says Ankole can cruise to the latter stages of the tourney because they have worked on their earlier mistakes.

In the other development, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) have extended a Shs75m sponsorship package to the tourney for the remaining two rounds. While announcing the deal at Fufa House on Friday, UTB Deputy CEO, John Ssempebwa, revealed they were impressed with the objectives of the tournament and seen its impact on the people in the matches played so far.

“We believe the Fufa Drum is an avenue for us to promote tourism with several people moving from one region to another. We saw how people from Acholi land moved to Kigezi to support their team. We have therefore decided to commit 75 million shillings towards the tournament as a pilot project,” said Ssempebwa.
