What you need to know:

  • There were two away wins on the day with Felix Okot scoring Maroon’s first goal this season in a 1-0 win over Bright Stars.
  • A similar scoreline was also recorded as Faisal Muwawu scored in the fourth minute for Kirinya-Jinja against hosts Masavu.

Kampala. Daniel ‘Mzee’ Sserunkuma scored the lone goal as Express defeated URA to record their second win of the season as the Azam Uganda Premier League resumed yesterday.
The result at Wankulukuku helped Express move to seven points from five games but also increased the pressure on under-fire URA coach Ibrahim Kirya.

The loss was their second of the season from five games that have generated a solitary win.

“I am not giving up on changing the team’s fortunes,” a dejected Kirya whose job is under threat said after the game.
His team looked disjointed particularly in the first half that was compounded by a failure to clear their lines from a freekick at the stroke of half time. Express defender Bernard Agere directed his header in Mubarak Nsubuga’s path with the midfielder’s effort parried by goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga. The ball fell to Sserunkuma who stabbed home from close range. “We now need to correct everything. It’s the third game running and we are not scoring,” added Kirya.

Express coach Douglas Bamweyana like the vibrant Express fans, was elated with the win despite his team again appearing to run out of steam in the second half.

“We’re just happy to get the win. We want to pick points particularly from our direct rivals,” stated Bamweyana who believes his team can challenge for the title. Express players were handed an unspecified amount of money from their fan Bryan White after the game.
